+Individual sessions with Tim and Anita  to evaluate your herd/farm plan.
+You are encouraged to come anytime before the seminar or to stay on after to spend time with Tim   +and Anita seeing their farm and animals or for consultation.
+Two day cost $200 per person. $300 per couple, including friends.

+One day cost $150 per person. $200 per couple, including friends.
+Seminar will be held at Beachwood Creek Farm, LLC, Fowler, Ohio 44418.

You can credit your seminar fees against any purchase or breedings at Beachwood Creek Farm.

Program Description

We have designed this seminar to be flexible and to cater to those that can spend just one day or two. Those that stay on the Sunday can choose from a range of topics for the Sunday morning presentations. Attendees cab stay on for Sunday afternoon if they have specific areas they would like to cover.

SATURDAY


8:15   Breakfast Country fare!

9.00am "The Alpaca Market Place."

Understanding the current market place and what the future might show. An analysis of trends and what niche a new breeder might pursue to brand their farm.

Break 15 minutes.

10:45 "Understanding Genetics for Alpaca Production."

To be a successful alpaca breeder people must understand genetics. Simple genetics theory including insights into prepotence, homozygosity and heritable traits will be discussed to illustrate what it is that makes a good alpaca, from the inside!

12:00 LUNCH! Local gourmet cuisine, wine and beer!

1:00pm "Alpaca Selection Theory."

A presentation that aims to illustrate the most desirable phenotypic traits of an alpaca. Ways to identify them and why they are so important.

Break 15 minutes.

TO THE BARN!

2:30pm "Alpaca Evaluation."

A hands on session where Jude and Alan will help you assess desirable characteristics of alpacas. You will be encouraged to get dirty! You will be given examples of what can happen with a thoughtful breeding program. You will get a chance to do hands on for huacaya, suri or both. Small groups will be given every chance to learn how to assess an alpaca. A chance here to hear Judge jude's thoughts on what it takes evaluate show quality.

Break 15 minutes

4.00pm "Alpaca Fiber Evaluation."

Another hands on session. For both huacaya and suri breeders here is the chance to learn from the best in the business. You’ll garner some insights in both these sessions that shall we say “ less seasoned “ alpaca breeders may not be savvy to. Again small groups will achieve the best results. You'll learn off Jude what fiber characteristics will succeed in the show ring.

5.00pm Meditation, drinking, pasture walking, snoozing, whatever takes your fancy time!

6.00pm DINNER ….hearty dinner with drinks.

 

SUNDAY

8.15am Breakfast. Again, hearty local fare.

These are the elective topics for Sunday morning...you could even choose to do more hands-on with animals and fleece.

The group as a whole who stays for Sunday may choose two of these topics to be run-up until 12.30pm

"Breeding for Gain"

A serious look at breeding systems, record keeping and evaluation. This is possibly where the thrivers are separated from the survivors!

 

 "Putting Money in the Bank!"

Sales and marketing can be a very intimidating process for many people. Here is a chance to learn from Tim who has sold many alpaca breeders world wide. A no holds barred session guaranteed to motivate you.

"Showing For Success"

Jude has judged alpacas in the show ring now for many years and has judged at all the major shows all over the alpaca world. She gives insights and hints from personal experience of how to prepare and conduct yourself for showing alpacas.

"Why do we Farm Alpacas."

A Global perspective. Tim takes you through world alpaca trends and analyses why alpaca is farmed and the importance of it as a textile in the world market place.

"Alpaca Business Planning"

Tim takes you through the nuances of planning an alpaca business.

"Making the Fiber of the Future"

Tim takes you through his very popular presentation on making alpacas that will take you into the future. He denounces many myths in the industry as well as gives you tools to make a future out of alpaca farming.

"Alpaca Farm Management"

Tim and Anita take you through the process of starting and running an alpaca farm. This covers everything from barn design to pasture management, fencing, nutrition, husbandry and herd management soft ware.

"Making The Fiber Of The Future"

Tim takes you through his very popular presentation on making alpacas that will take you into the future. He denounces many myths in the industry as well as gives you tools to make a future out of alpaca farming.
